Verada/Diamante steering wheel radio buttons for NL Pajero
After relocating the Android Auto head unit to being up on the dashboard, I still wanted to have buttons on the steering wheel for radio control. As it turns out, the late 1990s stuff from Mitsubishi for wheels that bolt on to the Pajero are ridiculously over-engineered!

Booster Plug install and technical review
Переглядів 6 тис.Рік тому
The Booster Plug is a (relatively) cheap device that intercepts the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) signal sent to your bike's ECU and lowers the temperature reading by about 19 degrees C, causing the ECU to add an additional 6% fuel (except when in Closed Loop mode if your bike has an O2 sensor). This is used to reduce or remove throttle snatchiness and flat spots in the power delivery of your bi...
PSA on Android Auto lag for voice commands
Переглядів 244Рік тому
For more than two years, Android Auto has had a 5 second lag on responding to the voice command button, but only when you are playing music. Considering all the safety stuff going on with distracted drivers, this bug - which they have not fixed in this entire time - could be the cause of a fatal accident. Google needs to fix these issues. I can only surmise that Android Auto development at Goog...

Replace the fuel tank quick disconnect adaptors on your BMW K1300!
Переглядів 3,8 тис.Рік тому
NOTE: There may or may not be a recall for your bike in your country and BMW may or may not replace the parts. If you don't want to do the work yourself, feel free to take your bike to your dealer. My brother in law got covered in gasoline after his K1300 hit a bump. It turned out his fuel tank quick disconnect broke and that it's a common issue, which may (or may not, depending on country) be ...
Pajero brake line replacement and flushing with the Motive Power Bleeder
Переглядів 2,3 тис.Рік тому
One of the "fun" parts of owning old car is the potential for your old brake lines to burst on you out of the blue. Braided brake lines are nice, but what's even nicer is bleeding your brakes with a Motive Power Bleeder.
NL Pajero Roadworthy "adventures"
Переглядів 269Рік тому
Well the Pajero went in for its Roadworthy inspection and certificate. Doesn't seem to matter what the rules say, you can get pinged for the inspector's particular interpretation of the rules. Sigh. I had to delete, edit, and re-upload this video due to my levels of frustration shown, and to make sure nobody identified the inspector so they could abuse him.
NL Pajero timing belt replacement
Переглядів 12 тис.Рік тому
This is more of a summary of the job rather than a full breakdown, as it skips things like replacing the water pump and removal of the cam sprockets. It does however show how you can, ahem, make some potentially fatal mistakes.
So I found the source of the Pajero oil leak...
Переглядів 10 тис.Рік тому
Turns out that almost ten years and 80,000km ago a "mechanic" who replaced the timing belt and cam oil seals pushed the cam seals so far into the heads that they pissed oil from day one. And the previous owner tried to tell me that the car had no oil leaks. Ah, honesty. Where did it go, eh?
Diagnosing and proving how Pajero/Montero 4WD actuator solenoids work
Переглядів 31 тис.Рік тому
Disclaimer: I had a bad cold when making this video and man, did I get some stuff backwards. Fundamentally what I say in the video about how the system works is correct, but when I talk about when solenoids are on or off based on a voltage reading, or the front diff actuator rod is in or out, I may have it backwards. Sorry folks. Following on from diagnosing that my 4WD "Super Select" aka "Acti...
The root cause of my 4WD engagement issues on the NL Pajero
Переглядів 39 тис.2 роки тому
I seem to have diagnosed the root cause of the 4WD engagement issues on my NL Pajero. The two vacuum lines that drive the engagement/actuator rod in and out of the front differential appear to be being "driven" inconsistently by the vacuum solenoids.
Transfer case adventures with the Pajero
Переглядів 4,3 тис.2 роки тому
Well, I got that darned bolt out that I dropped into the transfer case. However it turns out that even after fixing the transfer case engagement lever with a replacement ball, there are *other* issues with the 4WD system that took me a while to diagnose root cause... You'll notice me futzing about with the transfer case lever here a bit. Unlike on manual Pajeros where you will nearly always hav...
Fluid change on the NL Pajero
Переглядів 2,2 тис.2 роки тому
Doing the basics here with oil changes. I checked but did not replace the oil in the transfer case or the front differential as they were full and the oil looked clean. I'll do the auto box oil in a dedicated video as it's a bit more involved.
Dropping a bolt into your Pajero transfer case is not fun.
Переглядів 7812 роки тому
My new to me Pajero suddenly got very hard to get in and out of 4WD today. I removed the lever to see if the selector lever engagement ball had disintegrated and indeed it had. However I then also dropped a bolt into the transfer case. Ugh, what an idiot.
Reviving a one-owner NL Pajero/Montero

My wife told me that we needed an automatic car as our spare, rather than our current NH 1992 Pajero/Montero which is manual. I managed to find a legitimate one-owner 1998 NL with the auto gearbox and dual-fuel (LPG and gasoline). There's a fair bit to do on this car to bring it up to a road worthy condition before I can transfer it into my name, and also so that it's got some more creature com...

Hi .. this thing happened to me two days ago , I changed my gear from 4H to 2H and the front tyres lights keeps flashing non stop , If I put back the gear to 4H or 4HLC or any gear it works fine as normal , but the 2H gear refuses to engage back to normal even If I drive for a long distance it keeps flashing .. and yesterday I heard a sound like friction .. I changed the solenoid 9 months ago .. have you faced this issue before ?

The delay is interesting solution but this path begs the question as to the point of a sensor's internal heating. Would seem that Bosch or any similar "major" manufacturer would recognize that moisture should be cooked off prior to the sensor functioning given moisture being a cause of sensor failure. Or, do manufacturers like Bosch benefit from their sensors failing?

    • @KaldekBoch

Honestly mate, I really don't know. My engineer says that only the NTK sensors are any good. I've since moved back to using the LSU 4.2 sensor, and haven't burned out a single one in over 2 years.

    • @KaldekBoch

The statement from my engineer is that the rapid movement of the slave cylinder causes the seal to briefly lose effectiveness and allow air to be drawn in.

I bought the 902x for my X-lite helmet. It doesn’t come with the stop light feature. The software is awful, the sound quality is awful, very tinny and too quiet, it uses an unique old style mini-usb connection and it just doesn’t work as well as a Cardo Freecom 2x for what is double the price. The only good thing about it is the integration with the helmet. If I hadn’t wasted north of £200 on it I would have ground out the ear cups on the helmet and installed another Cardo.

Did you make a video about the rocker cover replacement ? My Pajero also did have an oil leakage in 2017 at 93.000 km. It was the "rear cam cap", not the rocker cover gasket. There are two round holes at the rear side of the engine, at the height of the camshafts. Both holes have a hatch with 2 bolts. Behind that is an O-ring , about 5 cm in diameter. I replaced both rings. At the left side of the engine, you can approach it from beneath. At the right side, you can only reach it from above. It is quite a hassle, because there is little working space, but it is do-able.

  • @johnny_w

Also nice to see you change the rear diff oil. The drain plug of my Pajero did not come loose. So I went to the garage, there they ruined the plug, they rounded it wit an air/impact wrench. So they only could drain the diff with a little suction hose in the hole where you normally fill the new oil in. That was a bummer ! My 1999 Pajero has a real diff lock, not LSD.

One thing i would suggest is filling up that actuator rod boot with wheel bearing grease and heaps of it so no issues in the future always lubricated never running dry
